About the artist

Robert Douglas Hunter was a New England artist who painted in the Boston School tradition. He was a much revered teacher of the prestigious Boston School of Painters for many decades. Hunter was able to capture the cold smooth surface of a copper pot as easily as he painted a buttery, soft petal of a flower. His formal compositions, with their subdued pallet, evoked a sense of elegance and dignity. Robert Douglas Hunter died at 86 years old in 2014.
